Disclaimer: This is a true story. This is not a spam, and I am not
a spammer (as a matter of fact, I hate the stuff :-) )
No it isn't, yes it is, and you can fill in the last answer for yourself.
This story has been floating around for longer than any legend on the net,
save possibly the Shergold Variations. It's bogus. And it amazes me that
relatively sane people will be so gullible as to continue to propagate it,
when the truth is so trivial to ascertain (take a peek in a Needless Markup
catalog -- they can't be too picky about who they send them out to, 'cause
they sent some to me).
I guess the tech-writing related moral to this is that it is vital that we
take the time to *always* check our facts before publication. Would you
take the marketing manager's word for the behavior of your product? Or
would you talk to the engineers and even use it yourself before (or while)
writing the docs? So why continue to perpetrate something like this based
solely on the word of someone who has even *less* cause to know the facts?
Get a grip.
