There are a few ways you can do this. I recommend (c).
a) If you have your defined paragraph styles stored in the Normal
template, you can edit
and save the template file. Open it up as a normal document (File,
Open, navigate: normal.dot
should be in a TEMPLATES subdirectory under your standard WinWord
directory). Format the
single paragraph return in the style you want. Save it. All future
documents based on
Normal.dot will open up with a single paragraph formatted in your
selected style.
Frankly, I think it's better not to mess with Normal.dot. If you do
change it, at least make a
backup first.
b) If it's just the paragraph formatting you want, and you don't
really mind if the style is
named Normal, you can open up the Normal.dot, change the formatting
on the Normal paragraph,
and save the formatting. Easiest way to do this is highlight the
paragraph, change the
formatting, then select the style. In the dialog box that pops up,
select "redefine the style using the
selection as an example." Then save and close Normal.dot.
c) If you have a custom template: Do either of the above with your
custom template. If you have a
custom template you can play with it with relative impunity.
