These points have been made elsewhere:
Avoid humour. Jokes don't cross the Atlantic. Different TV shows are watched
in different countries. Avoid baseball and American football idioms. You
don't understand cricket and are puzzled by soccer idioms. Brits, Indians,
etc have similar problems with US games.
