"Folio eats the Verity engine for lunch as far as speed is concerned.
In
the same scenario that Bill H. presented, Folio would return your

The statement that Folio would return your request in less than a second
cannot possibly be true. Whenever you are searching data on a CD-ROM,
the speed upon which the results are returned depend on the speed of the
user's hardware. Some CD-ROM drives that are 1x or 2x (which,
unfortunately, are still being sold in some PCs) are rather slow and
would obviously not be physically able to return data "in less than a
second."
Besides, whether results of a search comes back in 1 second or 10
seconds, users really don't care. It's when it takes 30 seconds or more
when users begin to realize that it's slow.
More importantly, companies should be concerned with functionality,
cross-platformability (a word I made up) if that's important, and
overall cost (do you have to pay $50 per license to distribute the
product to users or is it FREE). Who cares if it will return results
within a second (if that were true)? Certainly my brain couldn't
possibly keep up with it, anyway.
