I'm reminded of a comment overheard by an engineering friend -- a
writer-friendly
engineer, by the way -- in a company for whom he contracted.
The company's lone writer had just told his boss, the marketing manager,
that a new manual wasn't done after two weeks' work. The manager's
angry reply -- "Dammit, I can write the goddam book today. Just gimme a tape
recorder!"
Or the Apps engineer's jocular washroom remark, "So, how are things
in the typing business?" (Writer remains silent...)
