The Society for Technical Communication just released their Salary survey
in the latest issue of Intercom. It's a fairly good reference source for
this information.
Unfortunately, our Human Resources department decided they could not use
it as a basis for setting salary ranges because the survey does not
include descriptions of the positions (e.g., tech writer in one company
could be very different than tech writer in another company).

Subject: Reference for Salary Ranges?
Would like to find a reference for salary ranges based on skill sets,
geographical location, etc. I've seen article in some software and
hardware
trade magazines, but haven't noticed any for technical writers, hypertext
developers, trainers, etc.
Please direct me to a "reliable" source for this data!
Thanks!
