I'd like to have the last word on this subject, if you'll let me. This is
really off-topic. [We should have a remedial netiquette group and require
(perceived) offenders to spend a month brushing up on sensitive issues
|:-)] I've received a few private posts--very polite--but suspect others
were turned off as well.
Minister of Propaganda was a joke refering to dictatorships. How many of
us jokingly refer to our bosses as "nazis" or some other dictatorial
synonym? (this is a rhetorical question). I stated (something like) "we
(in the US) often use the phrase nazi as a joke" I did not intend to
generalize! (in fact added the US bit so I wouldn't be speaking for groups
I don't belong to!) If it makes some people happy, I'll rephrase: "some
people in some countries who may or may not be joking may intentionally or
unintentionally possibly use the phrase "nazi" as a joke..."
My latest post was a hasty attempt to rectify a possible insensitivity in
another post. Serves me right for trying to address a tricky issue as
quickly as possible--it leads straight from the shallow end into the deep
(or frying pan/fire--take your pick of metaphors). And in case anyone's
interested--I don't think feminazi is very funny, but Rush and his
followers seem to--it was coined as a joke. I just mentioned that example
because I happened to be reading about the term last week. If I hadn't
been running to a meeting, I might have thought of a better one.
Hope this makes everyone happy. Or is that too much of a generalization?
Again, please please let this be the last word. I was really enjoying this
list.
