Subject:Re: Titles for Technical Writers From:Sabahat Ashraf <sabahat_ashraf -at- MENTORG -dot- COM> Date:Fri, 10 Jan 1997 10:36:44 EST
By the way, I have been a Development Engineer in charge of Documentation as
well as Systems Analyst doing the same. The designations appeared on the
business cards as:
Development Engineer [Documentation]
Systems Analyst [Documentation]
In the former case, it was because everybody else with my rank was a
Development Engineer. The ad they gave for my replacement listed the post as
Documentation Engineer.
The latter title is my personal favourite if you are working in an environment
run by programmers. You see, when good programmers die, they become Systems
Analysts -- it is the dream of every programmer to be one -- and that
designation gave me a rank on a par with the senior most programmer. I insisted
on this designation because we were a small set up and I wanted to make sure
that the documentation department [namely, me] got equal status with the
programming side.
