Without seeing exactly what you mean, I don't know
if what I found makes sense. In noodling with the
ContemporaryReport template, I found that (at
least some of) the gray bars are graphics, not
part of some style or other. If you click on the
particular bar you want to remove, a series of
small black boxes should appear around the bar.
Once that happens, deleting the bar will make it
go away. The same should also work if the bars
are graphics contained in a header.

I've been trying to modify the Contemporary Report template in Word 7.0
(running in Win95) to remove a gray bar that appears near the top of
odd-numbered pages except for the first. I've experimented at length
with the various Header styles, since where this bar occurs would
coincide with an odd page header, but it doesn't appear to be connected
to them. I've tried modifying the page setup, trying to do something
with a Master Document, and copying only the styles I really want to
another template. That darn bar is still there!
Does anyone else know of a way to remove this gray bar?
