What is the career path for a technical writer? One of the things that
makes tech writing one of the coolest professions on the planet is that it
is so incredibly broad, multifaceted, and open-ended. You can do anything
you darn well please, Emily. I say don't think of it as a linear "path" but
as a process of discovery unique to each individual. One thing will lead to
another as you explore your interests and become better and more
knowledgeable. There is no one right way to do it. Let it be a process of
self-discovery and you will enjoy it a lot more and get somewhere you want
to be rather than where you think you ought to be. St. Jobs said it best
many years ago: The journey is the goal.
