Subject:ADMIN: Changed List Configuration and More From:"Eric J. Ray" <ejray -at- RAYCOMM -dot- COM> Date:Mon, 17 Mar 1997 06:41:35 -0700
Gang,
Just a heads up-type warning. I made some changes to
the TECHWR-L configuration over the weekend.
Theoretically, you won't notice anything, but we all
know how that goes.
Specifically:
* All subscribers will have to confirm their subscriptions
annually. If you post regularly (although I don't know
how often), this won't affect you, but don't be surprised
if/when you get a message about confirming your
subscription.
* All new subscribers will get a Welcome message with the
complete set of Administrivia postings, including the
how-tos, the Posting Rules, and the Scenario.
* All exiting subscribers will get a Farewell message asking
for feedback direct to me.
Additionally, I changed the way the listserv handles bad
addresses and confirmation. Without getting into the specifics,
the listserv will treat problematic addresses more aggressively.
That is, people with stable addresses that appear on the Internet
as normal, standard-compliant addresses will have less hassle.
The rest of you (relatively few, all things considered) will
have to more frequently confirm your existence and interest
in techwr-l. If your account habitually bounces mail (or, from
your perspective, if a fairly substantive amount of mail goes
missing at times), anticipate some additional administrative
messages from the listserv.
Finally, I revised the Administrivia and Posting Rules messages
to address most of the suggestions I've been sent and specific
issues I've noticed. Please thoroughly read both messages and
file them away for future reference.
The most visible change in the Posting Rules message is the
name -- based on the messages I've received, the new term
Rules should more effectively convey the purpose of the posting.
As always, if you have questions, send them to me directly.
Eric
