You can display the number of pages in the current section by using
SECTIONPAGES instead of NUMPAGES.
On another note: According to the Chicago Manual of Style, all pages in
a book (with a number of special exceptions) are counted in the
pagination. This would include the title page and the following blank
page that you speak of. Even if no page number appears on these pages,
they are still counted. Thus, the first page that actually has a number
on it is usually page 3 or page 5. You might want to reconsider your
pagination scheme.
