I've found most people hiring tech writers expect you to use whatever you
can. Some companies won't officially let you use their documents as
portfolio fodder, yet they expect you to use stuff from OTHER companies
that way.
OTOH, I once refused a job because the company wouldn't even let me take my
work home with me.
