Surely you need to define the job BEFORE the job description! We have an Information Designer job description which developed out of a need for multi-talented individuals who could tackle a variety of projects using different media. I don't see how you can say you need an Information Engineer if you don't know what they are going to do.
(This is my opinion)

Subject: IE Job Description
I'm currently creating an Information Engineer position in my department
and would like to know if anyone has a current job description for such
a position. I'm looking for the usual job description stuff: essential
job functions, knowledge, skills, education/experience requirements.
Thanks in advance. I'll publish the new description when I'm finished.
