Gang,

Sorry to be so slow to jump into this, but I've been
on a deadline and out of action for a few days.

It seems that--based on spot checks of the hundreds
of unread messages I have--that certification once again
has taken on the a religious war aspect. That is,
opinions aren't changing as a result of the discussions and
the tone and tolerance levels are rapidly decreasing.

With that in mind, let's table the certification discussion
until there is something NEW to say. (To all concerned,
I'm afraid that others failure to recognize the merits
of your position isn't due to a lack of understanding--it's due
to a fundamental disagreement that unlikely to be
clarified.)

That said, it'd probably be worthwhile to figure out
what the actual issues are that generate so much interest.
Few discussions on the list generate this much
traffic and this many well-reasoned responses (you know
who you are).

I don't think the real issue is certification--I'm inclined
to think that it has something do with credibility,
marketability, or keeping up with the Jones, or
something else that I'm not seeing.

With that in mind, what do _you_ do to increase your
marketability and potential for a newer, better, more
satisfying position, either at your current employer or elsewhere?
Or, what should certain of your co-workers, ex-managers,
or current and former employees consider to make
themselves more valuable in the marketplace?

Eric
