I really didn't want to get involved in this...I much prefer lurking.
But I must respond to this. It is my life's goal to do whatever pleases me
and make money at it. I enjoy being a tech writer, I take pride in my
work, and I believe I'm good at it. FWIW, my employer and my co-workers
seem to think I'm pretty good at it too. My job by its very nature allows
me to keep learning about new technologies...there's always another
frontier to explore. This is ultimately satisfying and fulfilling. And I
am totally thrilled that I get paid (not too badly either) to do all this.
I am not so insecure that I need a certificate to validate myself as a
tech writer, any more than I need one to validate myself as a wife, a
mother, a seamstress, or a gardener. There will always be employers who
have different criteria for hiring, whether a certificate, a degree,
experience with a particular software package, whatever. Being a certified
tech writer will not change that. Ever.
Sorry to have continued this thread of which I am also very tired. I
guess I'm weak too, Michael. :)
