Do you experience the same problem when sending to an individual -- not
a list -- (outside of your domain)?

Don't know. Haven't had any complaints, though. It probably is a
combination of the firewall bottleneck and the mail server. We use MS
Mail 3.5 (another Microsoft hog), and people routinely send Word
attachments. I've often seen messages in the vicinity of a megabyte in
size distributed to hundreds of recipients. Keeps the server pretty
busy, I'd imagine.
