Subject:Managing Images and Captions in Word 97 From:Richard Rogers <rogers_r -at- WIZTEC-USA -dot- COM> Date:Tue, 24 Jun 1997 13:44:59 -0400
Greetings All,
I just came across two articles in the July 1997 issue
of PC Computing which cover creating complex documents
filled with graphics in Word 97. I have not completed the exercises,
but it looks promising. Thought I would share.
In a special section entitled "Office Computing,"
1) Publishing Pages Like a Pro (page A12)
Summary (from article) Using templates "this project turns Word 97
into a desktop publisher. It includes features that make it easy
to insert images into documents and automatically manage their
captions." A little Visual Basic for Applications experience will
help you finish quicker.
And this is the one I'm most interested in:
2) Effortlessly Manage Images in Word 97 (page A16)
Summary "This project add a way to track image files separately
from your documents" using Excel spreadsheets.
The articles do not pull any punches when it comes to Word 97.
They discuss Word's shortcomings "When you place a picture it
doesn't stay anchored when you move the cursor," " In addition to
bloating the document's size, embedded pictures make loading,
scrolling, and saving documents much slower."
PC Computing has the two projects on the Web at
