TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I once worked at a law office--briefly. They had a huge file room with
rows and rows of moveable floor-to-ceiling shelves (you pushed a button
and a space would open up in front of the appropriate shelf). If this
is a common setup in law offices, could you adapt this into a metaphor?
(I hated those things--always expected someone to push the button while
I was between them. They were only open on one side, and I was never
sure I could run the length before getting crushed. Someday I'm going
to use them as a weapon in a murder mystery.)
