The problem is that the the receiver of the email doesn't have that
template in their directory. You need to send them a copy of the
template (like you would an attached file) and have them re-attach the
template to the document and make sure that the update styles box is
checked. In Word the receiver needs to open up your document, go
under FILE---Templates----and attach the template you sent them. This
should work and all formatting should be returned to normal as long as
the document is based on styles.

You need to tell us what software you are using. And is absolutely ALL
formatting lost?

If you are using Word: I had a similar problem on a contract a year ago. I
think that I had redefined some system styles, such as Normal and Heading
1. When someone opened the document on another system, the new system's
style characteristics overrode mine. I think that I renamed all of my
styles with unique names to solve the problem.
