How to get that first TW contract

My advice to your friend and to others wanting to break into TW---

Dedicate another month of un- or under-employment to this project:

Answer every single TW ad in all the newspapers of areas that you are
interested in.
Say in your cover letter (in your own words, of course):

"Although you don't mention at-home work in your employment ad, I have
all the equipment and software needed to complete your project on time.

I'll do a better, cheaper, and faster job that an in-house writer could
do."

And do it cheaper! You can make it back in the next job.

At home, you can call your TW friends for advice when you need it.  You
can try things that may be impossible to try in an in-house job.

The other advantages are uncounted.

While you're doing that at-home job, continue to send resumes to every
advertiser asking for more at-home work.

After you have a few of these at-home contracts under your belt and feel
qualified to handle an in-house position, re-write your resume and brag
on self.
