Vikki,

Use warning.

According to the ANSI Z535 the following defines when to use danger, warning,
and caution.

Danger: The hazard or unsafe practice will result is severe injury or death.
Warning: The hazard or unsafe practice could result in severe injury or death.
Caution: The hazard or unsafe practice could result in minor injury.

In rewriting the hazard you should follow this order:
1. The severity of the hazard (i.e., warning)
2. Icons of how the hazard effects a person.
3. What is the hazard
4. What is the result of the hazard
5. What do you do to prevent the hazard.

Always write for the worst case senario and put yourself in the place if you
were the worst case person. For more information contact the American National
Standards Institute Z535 Safety Committee at http://www.ansi.org and enroll in
safety classes offered at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, College of
Engineering. A person in our department went for a week or two up there and
found it most valuable.

I have to include a note in the a power supply maintenance manual that I am
writing. The company that I worked for is now using liquid-cooled test
systems and high voltage. When needed, I have to use the following note:

"THE POWER SUPPLIES POSE SERIOUS HIGH VOLTAGE AND HIGH CURRENT
ELECTRICAL HAZARDS DURING SERVICE. MOST POWER SUPPLY TERMINALS AND
BACKPLANE BUSES PRESENT AN ELECTRICAL HAZARD. EXTRA CAUTION AND CARE MUST
BE EMPHASIZED WHEN SERVICING THESE AREAS. DUE TO THE HIGH POWER HAZARDS,
RINGS, WATCHES, NECKLACES, AND O HER CONDUCTIVE ORNAMENTS SHULD NOT BE WORN
WHEN SERVICING POWER SUPPLIES."

In other words, serious injury could result, possibly even death, but this
should not be indicated. Is this a WARNING or CAUTION?

You can reply to me directly if you like.

Thanks all!!

Vikki
