I've been watching the responses - the PDF problem
may be the lawyers' concern ... but perhaps there
is a compromise (read: no one is happy) --
{caveat: I don't know PDF limitations)
put the references in footnotes - that (may) solve
the PDF problem with minimal impact on the reader
(the interruptions are out'a the way but still
on the same page).
