To those who responded to my initial inquiry, thanks. The vast majority of
the respondents fundamentally agreed that including a page range gave
readers a cue that a reference such as "creating veeblefetzers, 18-22" is a
substantive discussion of the topic, and "veeblefetzers, 18" is most likely
a short discussion of the topic.
I suspected as much, and I was after some substance to back up my
supposition. Is there some research on this, or is this "common knowledge?"
