If you have access to the software, the SAP R/3 online library and extended help
system are excellent resources. They are really the same material, but accessing
through extended help is contextual. Most sites customize heavily, so these are
best for a high-level understanding of key processes. Before you document
detailed processes based on the online help, check with your client subject
matter experts.

Also, the company you are working for should have a series of SAP manuals called
"Functions in Detail." They are not that detailed, but they do cover all the
main processes in all the modules. There are many good diagrams and process
flows which you can replicate and adjust for your client's needs.

If your client's staff has been through SAP Boot Camp training, they will have
excellent manuals on each module. Again, this is generic information.

Many companies also have a CD from SAP that contains all their documentation.
Ask your client about this.

There are a few books available retail, but most deal with project
implementation and ABAP programming. Que's book "Using SAP R/3" is readily
available for about $70.00. I recommend it only because it's about all there is.
It's mistitled; there's very little about "using" the software in the book, but
it will help you understand each module. It will also help you understand SAP's
integration, which is its main distinction and is key to your understanding of
the product. It will help you write business process overviews and will give you
the foundation you need to dig deeper.

Finally, you can't get into SAP training without being a partner or client, but
perhaps your client will agree to sending you with its staff. Worth a try.

Of course, nothing will help you more than digging in. Writers tend to be
intimidated by SAP. But remember, although it's bigger and more integrated than
most, it's just another piece of mindless software.

Good luck. Please feel free to e-mail me directly with any specific questions.
I'll do my best to help.
