Subject:Parataxis? Does it take a paradigms? From:Pat Gantt <pagantt -at- POSTOFFICE -dot- WORLDNET -dot- ATT -dot- NET> Date:Fri, 12 Sep 1997 18:11:43 -0500
While trying to look up "parataxis" a search brought
up my all time pet peeve paradigm.
>>>> >Seriously, though, it's a horrible paragraph. The parataxis is enough to
>>>> >make my butt squinch.
>>>> >
>>>> Ok, I'll bite. What's parataxis?
>It's what you hail when all your luggage won't fit into one taxi.
>Oh, I thought it was the militarized branch of standard taxi service...
>Or the airborne branch. ("Geronimoooooo....")
>Or practicing to be (and subsidiary to) a real taxi.
Anyone else hate that word paradigm?
Now I can add a new word to my
peeve list... parataxis.
Do like that word squinch. Not
sure if my butt has been but it
sounds fun. ;-)
>Eric's gonna kill us!
Eric must be away... bet
we'll get an Eric frowny face
when he does get back.
Since Eric is gone did anyone
else assume from an ancient email
that he wrote HTML for Dummies?
OK, I admit it. I want that book.

The dictionary meaning is "an
outstandingly clear or typical example or
archetype." Paradigm is from the Greek
compound word paradeigma, with para
meaning alongside and deiknunai
meaning to see or to show. A paradigm
is a concept, often assumed or
subconscious, that enables one to see
and understand. It is not the thoughts we
have, but the framework around which
our thoughts are formed. In this sense,
our paradigms are the mental tools or
mindsets that we use to understand a
situation.
