Using manuals

I agree with the previous writers.
But this begs the question of why are so many manuals written based on the
idea that
people use them to teach themselves how to use the software. A manual, or
better
manuals, broken into parts for different levels of users, indexed across
all manuals,
would be much better. Apple used to do a similar thing until they started
to rely
on on-line help.
