Subject:A Corrected CORRECTION on Ketchup From:Smokey Lynne L Bare <slbare -at- JUNO -dot- COM> Date:Tue, 18 Nov 1997 21:04:06 -0500
To be technically correct on the subject, the following information might
be more useful.
Heinz (R) is a Registered trademark for the H. J. Heinz Company. The
company introduced 'Tomato Ketchup' in 1876. What IS trademarked is
their tag line phrase, "Keg o' Ketchup (TM)." Ketchup was discovered by
English sailors in the late 1600s while visiting Malaysia and Singapore.
The Chinese originally produced this tangy sauce made from the brine of
pickled fish or shellfish.
The kosher symbol or Kashrut or Kashroot means.... ritual fitness or
permissiveness of food, a procedure under Kosher standardization for food
processing, not that "...the stuff" is kosher. It is a process. I know,
as I designed the engineering graphic symbol for Ross Laboratories kosher
product team. Two symbols of kosher approval, which represent two
different rabbinical organizations, that can appear on products are
either a circle enclosing a K, or a circle enclosing a U.
......to technically search is to technically know...know thy product and
audience....
or better yet - know where to find it if you write about it and aren't
sure.

Point being here - Corporations drive for accuracy in product and name
identity. If you are not sure, may I recommend you not put anything
(symbols) rather than to be wrong.
