Well...if it's THAT important, I'll take some time and contribute to it

Maybe I've developed a thick skin, but unless agency "A" specifically
goes out of their way to screw ME, I take very little personal.
I understand and don't have a pronblem with an agency trying to keep as
much of the pie as they can and they don't have a problem with me trying
to keep it for myself by asking for decent rates.
On the other hand, I don't have to use them in the way I work. I could
do the leg work, I could spend time on the phone with companies looking
for opennings, I could make all types of arangements to satisfy
corporation's hesitancy to use 1099 contractors, and I could wait the
60-90 days for them to pay my bill, and I could get myself involved in
all of the stuff that my Uncle Sam makes me go through . For this, I'll
make an additional $20-$30 per hour (maybe more, maybe less).
However, I don't want to do that. I don't do it well (or at least I
don't have the patience to try and do it well). I want to make a rate
that I'm comfortable with. THis does not mean that I may come cheap. I
turn down alot of opportunities without discussing them with the agency
because of any number of factors, including that the cut ($$ wise, not
%% wise) that they are offering may not be enough.
Let's face it. To me, it is a pain to have to dedicate X number of
hours per week in self-promotion. I did that for 15 years as a sale
rep. To me, it's worth the agency's cut to find a job by sending out a
load of resumes by email and waiting for the calls.
