I'm not aware of any online resources that give practical tips on how to
set up and run a contracting business in the United Kingdom. But to get
an idea of the kinds of technical writing jobs that companies in the UK
are looking to fill, you might try:
www.guardian.co.uk
BTW: If you happen to know of any companies in the UK that may be
interested in parceling out documentation projects to American technical
writers on a telecommuting basis (via your agency, of course), please
let me know. I'm interested!!!
Best of luck to you in your new venture!
