hint:

bad, developers: print John's message and memorize it. Forget about
food and bogus confrontations (questioning developers on their design
decisions as a way chatting them up). John's way is the way grownups
work together.

John's way is one way, and I think we should all use it at some point.
(Thanks for posting it, John!) There are other ways that work well,
depending on the SME and other factors, and food and schmoozing are
among them. I like having several arrows in my quiver, so I enjoy
hearing about different ways to get information from SMEs.

I dunno about the rest of you, but I have found that as I have gotten
older, I have found that where once I maintained my own position as
the One True Way, I now allow that different things work for different
people. Anyway, I'm one grownup who responds well to food.

Doesn't one of Eric's recurring billets-doux say something about
snipping unnecessary text?
