Subject:TECH: Photos load slow in PDFs on Intranet From:Ballenberger Gerd <Gerd -dot- Ballenberger -at- MED -dot- SIEMENS -dot- DE> Date:Tue, 2 Dec 1997 09:23:38 +0100
In the PDF documents on our Intranet, some black&white photographs load
very fast (1 ... 3 seconds), but others load unbearably slow (1 ...
several minutes!).
The PDF files were created with Acrobat Exchange 3.0 from FrameMaker
5.1.1P2c on Win NT 4.0.
The differences can be found within one file, even on one page, i.e. all
images were distilled with the same Distiller settings (no
down/sub-sampling; Automatic Compression ZIP/JPEG Medium).
The following parameters seem to have _NO_ impact:
* file type (TIF, PCX);
* file size (an 850 KB photo loads fast, a 90 KB one loads slow!);
* resolution and image size (all images are about 150 ... 300 dpi;
downsampling to 150 dpi before importing into Frame doesn't really
help);
* if, after importing into Frame, the photos were enlarged or reduced in
size;
* if the dpi setting in Frame (in Graphics/Object Properties.../Scaling)
is known or "undefined".
Anybody any idea? Thanks in advance!
Gerd
