TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.

It's possible to live on $10 an hour even if you do have bills to pay and
loans to pay off. It might not always be fun, and you might not be able to
buy everything you want, but for an internship that's going to last probably
no more than a year, it would be bearable to live cheaply on $10 an hour.
On the other hand, it depends on what part of the country you're living in.
In Michigan, most of the techcomm jobs are here in the metro-Detroit area
and it's hard to find a decent 1-bedroom apartment for less than $650 a
month. At $10 an hour you'd best find yourself a roommate or else be
willing to live on mac-n-cheese seven nights a week.
