Technical Writer -
This person creates, edits, and updates user documentation for software
benchmark products, including PC, Mac, laptop, and Java benchmarks. The
documentation includes, but isn't limited to, online HTML - or WinHelp-based
user guides, readme files, in-house newsletter articles, and occasional
promotional materials. Person is viewed as an all-around "English language
consultant" for the software developers.
Requirements:
* Bachelor's degree in English/Communications or
Associate technical degree with 2-4 years' technical
writing/illustration experience, or equivalent combination
of education and experience.
* Minimum two to four years' experience required.
Knowledge of MS Word, Doc-to-Help, Web publishing a plus, but not essential;
however, should have some online help experience. Also responsible for
reviewing/writing all text the user will see in our products' user interfaces,
from
dialog boxes to menu selections. Involves working closely with software
developers. Helpful to have an informal writing style for the HTML and
newsletter articles.
Self-starter, with some knowledge or experience of planning and tracking
multiple, sometimes concurrent, projects. Strong prioritization skills. Be
quick to adapt and respond to requests in a somewhat interrupt-driven
environment.. Will work with software developers and marketing. Good
interview/research skills needed. Analytical and critical thinking skills
required, or at least an interest in how software is made and used. Interest
in information design and user-interface design very helpful. Someone who
enjoys telling others about technology as much as they enjoy learning about
it. Knowledge of Windows operating systems helpful. Must be able to work well
on their own, as well as in a team environment.
