Clear Point Consultants, located in Peabody MA, conducts an annual
Skills and Compensation Survey for Technical Writers. The results of
their 1996 survey are posted on their web site: http://www.clearpnt.com/services/survey.htm. They include graphs that
show how specific skills are related to higher ranges of $$.
The results of their 1997 survey (broken out for tech writers, editors
and trainers) have been sent to those who participated in the survey,
and can be purchased from the web site.
Peabody MA is in the North East of the US, in an area jumping with high
tech firms. Survey respondents are not necessarily all from that region,
though. I discovered Clear Point at a Help University conference in
North Carolina last year, and have enjoyed receiving their newsletter,
The Candidate, which "targets career and job issues for Information
Design and Delivery professionals."
