Subject:Definition--Second Level Effects From:RACHEL ANNE PEELER <RPEEL829 -at- BJU -dot- EDU> Date:Sun, 15 Feb 1998 22:11:43 -0500
This is a response to a request for the definition of "second level
effects."
All new technology has "first level effects" which are planned gains
in efficiency and productivity of the new technology. "Second level
effects" are the unanticipated consequences of the new technology.
The consequences could be positive or negative. For example, a
"first level effect" of a listserv would be helping others in the
same field communicate with each other about a specific topic. A
"second level effect" that's negative would be flaming. I just
wanted to know your opinions on "second level effects" that you have
noticed on this listserv. Hope that helps.
