SPC 300/600 -- Speech Writing
Syracuse University is pleased to offer ?Speech Writing" on-line this
summer semester through Syracuse University Continuing Education (SUCE)
OnLine.
The course will cover principles and practices of effective speech
writing for clients. It will also cover ethical issues related to ghost
writing and the genres of oral 'public' discourse demanded of
high-profile persons. Speech writing assignments include:
commencement address, acceptance speech, award speech,
dedication speech, recruiting or 'buy in' speech, and apologia--a kind
of speech delivered when a client is accused, or found guilty, of an
impropriety. Among other things, students will read and electronically
discuss model speeches and articles on rhetoric's principles, write six
5-7 minute speeches and engage weekly critiques of classmates'
posted speeches via e-mail and chat room.
