All writing is connected...be it journalism, tech writing, marketing
writing, online writing.

Yes and no...
I'm an English major with a masters. I've returned to school for
amasters in Technical Communication. I love words and am good with
them. I've written a few manuals. And it has taken a while to shake the
English major in me. My writing has become more pricise and has less of
the literary flow I worked so hard to aquire in college.

A good writer can learn another style--journalist, technical or
otherwise. The trick, I think, is learning how to write for
audiance--technical and otherwise. I must admit, however, my English
degree has given me a bit of an edge in my tech writing classes as I
watch other students struggle with papers, etc.
