Why not offer a salve for his wound. He'll get paid for all the time
he's answering your questions right? Show him what you want to do, what
you need him for, give him an estimate of the time you need from him,
and maybe the money will loosen his tongue a bit. (Presented
effectively, you're giving him an alternate method of screwing his
former employers, but one in which he benefits as well.)
