TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Far be it from me to squelch a good debate (!) but can I show you my
continuum again? I like it because it's got these neat rainbow colors on it
now. (I bumped it up to 256 colors when I got my new paint program.) Way
over here, in the indigo, (stretch out left arm, waggle fingers) are the
really good writers who are okay with technical stuff. Way over there, in
the reds, (right arm, waggle) are the technical people who can sort of
write. Here in the middle, where most of us are, in the yellows, greens and
blues, are a slew of folks who can deftly combine good writing with a good
understanding of technical material.
Maybe your company wants and needs writers who are more red than blue.
That's okay. Users sometimes need writers who are more violet than yellow or
orange. That's okay too. Isn't that what's great about this profession?
