Laura,
One readily available approach, albeit not exactly what your
correspondent requested, is to use Acrobat Exchange on everyone's
desktop and have each reviewer use a different background color for
sticky notes. This leaves the original document file (whatever the
source platform) completely undisturbed. The author can see different
reviewers' ideas about edits and adopt, modify, or reject them.
