Michael,

I also had trouble generating a PDF from Frame 5.5 (Win95). I was using
the "Save As PDF" feature (not sure if that was the workflow you were
using). Here is the fix that I received from technical support.

Issue

When you print a document to disk as a PostScript file from Adobe
FrameMaker 5.x for Windows, and then distill it into a PDF file using
Adobe Acrobat Distiller, Distiller returns one of the following errors:

Offending Command FMc

Offending Command FmPA

Offending Command FmPD2

Offending Command FmPD

Solutions

If you're using FrameMaker 5.1.1 in Windows 95, print the PostScript file
from FrameMaker using the Adobe PostScript printer driver 4.1 (AdobePS)
<underline><color><param>ffff,0000,0000</param>OR any
Postscript driver</color></underline>, with the
PostScript option set to Optimize for Portability - ADSC and the
PostScript header downloaded with each print job:

1. Install AdobePS 4.1. You can obtain this driver from the
FrameMaker
CD-ROM. For instructions on determining which version of the printer
driver is installed, see Additional Information.

2. Choose Start > Settings > Printers.

3. Right-click on your printer, then select Properties from the
pop-up
menu.

4. Click on the PostScript tab.

5. Select PostScript (Optimize for Portability - ADSC) from the
PostScript Output Format pop-up menu.

6. Set the PostScript Header option to Download Header with Each
Print
Job, then click OK.

7. Print the FrameMaker document to disk as a PostScript file using
AdobePS, then distill the PostScript file in Acrobat Distiller.

OR: If you're using FrameMaker 5.x in Windows 3.1x, set the printer
driver to conform to the Adobe Document Structuring Convention (ADSC) and
enable the option to download header information with each print job.
Then print the PostScript file to disk from FrameMaker using the new
settings and distill the PostScript file in Acrobat Distiller.

To change the settings in the Microsoft PostScript printer driver:

1. Double-click on the Control Panel in the Main group, then
double-click
the Printers Control Panel.

2. Select your printer, then click Setup.

3. Click Options, then select Send Header with Each Job.

4. Click Advanced, then select Conform to Adobe Document Structuring
Convention.

5. Click OK.

To change the settings in AdobePS:

1. Double-click on the Control Panel in the Main group, then
double-click
the Printers Control Panel.

2. Select your printer, then click Setup.

3. Click on the PostScript tab.

4. Set the PostScript Performance option to Optimize for Portability
-
ADSC.

5. Click on the Job Control tab.

6. Set the PostScript Header option to Download with Each Job.

Additional Information

Acrobat Distiller may return a PostScript error when distilling a
PostScript file generated by FrameMaker 5 for Windows.

If you are running FrameMaker for Windows 3.1x in Windows 95, upgrade to
FrameMaker 5.1.1 for Windows 95. FrameMaker 5.1.1 for Windows 95 is
optimized to print in the Windows 95 environment.

To write standard PostScript, set the printer driver to conform to ADSC
and send the PostScript header downloaded with each print job

To create a PostScript file that conforms to the Adobe Document
Structuring Conventions (ADSC), the printer driver must be set to
Optimize for Portability. This option ensures that each PostScript page
is independent of all other pages in a document. These self-contained
page objects help documents print successfully on network spooler-based
printers as well as on remote printers.

To determine the version of FrameMaker 5.1.1 you are running, choose Help
> About FrameMaker and then click on More. Version 5.1.1P2c is FrameMaker
for Windows 95. Version 5.1.1P1c is FrameMaker for Windows 3.1x.

To determine which version of the printer driver is installed on Windows
95:

1. Choose Start > Settings > Printers.

2. Right-click on your printer, then select Properties from the
pop-up
menu.

3. Click on the Paper tab, then click About. (If no Paper tab is
available in the Properties dialog box, you are using a Windows 3.x
printer driver.)
