Subject:QUESTION: Best Methods for Intranet Publication From:Dianna Massey <dmassey -at- CELERITY -dot- COM> Date:Tue, 21 Jul 1998 13:41:44 -0400
Hi,
I could use your help on some questions about publishing
information on an intranet.
First, some background:
My company wants to publish specifications and other internal
engineering documents on its intranet so these documents are
generally available to those in the company who need them.
This information is strictly for internal use.
Our engineers work on several operating systems, including
Solaris, QNX, Windows NT, and Windows 95. All have
current browsers. They also use several different applications
for creating their documents, from simple text editors to
MS Word.
I have worked through these arguments before at another company,
but it would be helpful to learn of other writers' experiences.
Now, the questions:
For those of you who have published to an intranet, did you
use HTML, PDF, others? (I searched the archives and read
the arguments for/against these formats. I am asking for
direct experience, not general information on the pros/cons
of HTML and PDF.)
Did you use combinations of the above? If so, what was the
criteria for selecting which format to use?
Have any of you published in an environment with this many
operating systems successfully? If so, which format(s) did
you use?
Please respond to me directly. If I receive information that
this topic is of general interest, I will post a summary to
the list.
