To have fields updated when the document is printed, you must have the
"Update fields" option checked. Select Options from the Tools menu,
click on the Print tab, and make sure the Update fields box is checked
(you can also go to print options from the print dialog).
Incidentally, F9 is a shortcut for the right button menu item Update
Field.

To do this, select Cross-reference from the Input menu.
