Well, to complain about your dogmatism in this would be exceedingly
hypocritical of me, so let me just suggest gently that you might run
into circumstances where you want to modify your position.

For ragged text, feel free to avoid hyphenation. But in justified text,
the judicious use of hyphens actually improves the appearance of the
page by eliminating extra-large word spaces and, even more distracting,
letterspaced words. Creating a page that is aesthetically appealing and
inviting to the reader is the first step toward making the page readable
in my opinion.

When allowing hyphens, it is important, though, to prevent ladders (more
than three consecutive line-ending hyphens).
