FarPoint Technologies, Inc., is seeking an experienced technical writer for
a full-time, permanent, on-site position.
Job Description:
Working within the development team, you will be responsible for creating
instructional guides and reference material for our product: software
development tools. You will coordinate and produce documentation from start
to finish, including overseeing production of printed materials. You will
prepare documentation for release as printed books and pamphlets, Windows
online help files, and PDF files (and HTML help in the future).
As a writer at FarPoint, you would also be responsible for the following
tasks:
- Prepare supplemental documentation such as files that accompany software
maintenance releases.
- Attend planning meetings and offer input as the "user's advocate" on all
aspects of product implementation.
- Help test software and write internal bug reports and small programming
projects that document the problem.
- Edit and review marketing and sales information, including ad copy,
product packaging, and information on the company web site.
- Write and maintain departmental procedures, internal style guides, and
templates.
Qualifications:
- 3?5 years experience writing software documentation
- Bachelors degree in English, journalism, communications, or related field
Required Skills:
- Ability to write clearly and succinctly about technical concepts
- Demonstrated proficiency in FrameMaker
- Experience creating and maintaining Windows online help files
- Ability to learn and use new computer systems and tools quickly with
minimum guidance
- Experience with Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0
Assets:
- Experience writing software documentation for programmers, including API
references
- Experience with graphics tools such as Paint Shop Pro
- Novice-level knowledge of Visual Basic, C, or C++
- Novice-level knowledge of HTML

- Ability to work closely with members of the development team to understand
highly technical information
- Capacity to florish in fast-paced environment where ability to work
independently is highly valued
- Ability to work well with a writing team, as well as autonomously
- Sense of humor
- Attention to detail and the elements of quality publications

- Willingness to learn about new technology
