TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.

Now I am very interested in how are to construct this line. To me it is
not obvious yet. It seems our field is so diverse that it will be a
great challenge to find *basic skills* that are common.
And getting over obstacles to acceptance that center around a person's
individual background and fears about being able to cross the line is an
even greater challenge.
Such as: I hope the skills definition (certification) doesn't emphasize
a TW degree because mine's in . . . .
or: I hope it doesn't emphasize graphics because all my experience is in
. . . .
or: I hope it doesn't emphasize software manuals because all I write is
. . . .
