Maybe you're using some settings I'm not familiar with, Shaun, but
if I blow up Times font nice and big in FrameMaker so that I can
measure it, I don't see that there is any more space padding the
period on the right than on the left, I don't see that a period
and a subsequent space take up any more width than the sum of a
period elsewhere and a space elsewhere, and I don't see that a
period at the end of a sentence is spaced differently from a
period elsewhere. In short, this making up for the space ratio
that should exist sounds like a myth to me.
