Subject:Unique opportunity for experience From:Jason Wynia <jwynia -at- AGRIS -dot- COM> Date:Mon, 17 Aug 1998 15:09:06 -0500
A while back, Rahel Bailie posted about a speaker she heard and thought
it might present an opportunity for tech writers to volunteer. She was
right, and I have more details.
The project is a new operating system that will have the potential to
run software from several different platforms. 32 bit Windows software
is the first platform that will be supported, followed by Linux/Unix and
Macintosh. It is being developed and released under the GNU General
Public License which makes the project entirely open source. As a
result the software will be available for free or the cost of the
medium. All of the people who are working on Freedows are volunteers.
After checking out what Rahel mentioned, I contacted the project
managers and have been named User Education Lead for the project. We
will be providing the canonical set of user education materials for
Freedows. This provides an opportunity for tech writers everywhere to
get some experience. It also gives a unique chance to build a portfolio
since there is no company to own what you write. Anyone who is
interested in becoming a part of the Freedows User Education Team email
me at jwynia -at- earthlink -dot- net -dot- More info on the project in general is
available at www.freedows.org
