Magita,
For guidance in determining an appropriate range of compensation for a technical writer in Dallas with the skills & experience you describe, check the income portion of the STC Lone Star Chapter's 1997 member survey, which appears here on their web site: http://stc.org/region5/lsc/www/survey97/income97.htm

Subject: Compensation in Dallas
Level with me, please. What is customary or reasonable compensation for
a very experienced tech writer at a consulting shop like EDS in the
Dallas Texas area? She has previous 10 years senior tech writing
experience with the client, enjoys a good relationship with them, and
they've pre-approved her hiring. Consider that the client is a govt
agency and the consulting company pays the tech writer's salary and
benefits. Also, the job is open-ended (GSA contract). There is a
relocation involved from a lower cost of living area.
Your feedback appreciated! Thanks
- Magita Storey
